Bespoke Dance Dress Maker
in Scotland — What
Janus Fashion Offers
Based in Stevenston, North Ayrshire, Janus Fashion has been handcrafting competition dresses since 2013 — and sending them to dancers in more than 40 countries. Here is what our bespoke service actually includes, and what sets a Scottish-made competition dress apart.
Handcrafted Since 2013, Now in Scotland
Janus Fashion was founded in 2013 in the south of England, where the business first built its name among competitive dancers. In December 2025, we relocated to Stevenston, North Ayrshire — and it is from this beautiful corner of Scotland that we now offer the same professional, highly regarded service our clients have trusted for over a decade.
Every bespoke commission is personally overseen by our head dressmaker, Renata, who brings 34 years of dressmaking experience to every consultation, every pattern, and every stitch. The address has changed; the craftsmanship and the standards have not.
What We Make
Our bespoke service covers every category and every level: Latin dresses, Ballroom gowns, Juvenile dancewear, and practice wear. Whether it is a first competition dress or a piece for an international final, the same care and construction standards apply.
No two commissions are the same, because no two dancers are the same — body, category, and competition goals all shape the final design.
The Bespoke Process
Every commission follows the same clear path: an initial enquiry about your competition date, category and ideas; a video consultation to develop the design, fabric and stonework together; a confirmed price and 50% deposit to begin production; handcrafted construction by Renata, with fittings where possible for local clients and photo updates for remote ones; and finally, a quality check, final payment, and tracked worldwide dispatch.
Nothing moves to the next stage until you have agreed it — there are no surprises along the way.
A bespoke dress should feel like it was made for exactly one dancer — because it was. That is the entire point of working with us rather than buying off the rail.
— Renata, Head Dressmaker · Janus FashionWorldwide Reach, Direct Communication
Although the studio is in Scotland, the majority of our bespoke commissions come from outside it. We have created pieces for dancers in over 40 countries, guiding remote clients through measurements at home via video consultation, with regular photo updates throughout production.
Wherever you are based, you work directly with our dressmakers — no agencies, no intermediaries, just a direct line to the people actually making your dress.
Alterations, Too — Especially Dresses
Bespoke commissions are only one side of what we do. From the same Stevenston studio, we also run a dedicated alterations service, open to local clients as well as our own dancers — the same hands, the same equipment, and the same exacting standards, applied to garments that already exist rather than ones built from scratch.
Dress alterations are a particular specialism of ours. Whether it is a wedding gown that needs its bodice taken in, a bridesmaid dress adjusted for a better fit, a competition dress resized between seasons, or an evening dress that simply needs a different hemline, Renata approaches every alteration with the same care she brings to a bespoke build — because even a beautifully made dress can be let down by a careless alteration.
The service is not limited to occasion wear, either. Everyday clothing, school uniforms, curtains, leather and more all pass through the same workshop — meaning local clients get access to 34 years of dressmaking experience for a simple hem just as much as for a full competition gown.
- Wedding & bridesmaid dresses: bodice fitting, hemming, bustles, and strap adjustments.
- Evening & competition dresses: resizing, restyling, and stonework repairs.
- Everyday clothing: trousers, jackets, coats, and school uniforms.
- Curtains & soft furnishings: shortening, relining, and repairs.
- Your design, your vision: we bring your sketch or inspiration to life — we don't impose our own.
- Fabric & stone selection: a wide range of performance fabrics, colours, and Swarovski crystals to choose from.
- Competition-ready construction: every decision made with your category, level, and movement in mind.
- Direct communication: you work with the dressmakers themselves, throughout the whole process.
- Worldwide service: tracked, signed-for delivery, wherever you are competing.
